An icon of the time.
My parents bought me a little ghetto blaster for Christmas 1986 and it instantly became the centrepiece of my bedroom. The ability to listen to my own music at top volume was amazing, but loading it up with 300 batteries so I could bring it to the local playground was even better.
Mom and dad got to hear “Parents Just Don’t Understand” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince hundreds of times, whether they wanted to or not.
