Destro: G.I. Joe box art

A personal milestone. G.I. Joe was a big part of my childhood, and Destro was my favourite character design. It was an absolute thrill when Hasbro called us up to design the box art illustration for "Profit Director Destro", a part of their Classified line of figures. Destro never had sunglasses, but I added the shades in one of my sketches as a joke. Not only were the sunglasses approved, Hasbro included them with the figure.

Here are the original pencils for the illustration, along with the colour comp I sent Hasbro for approval. The final was very close this design.

In the beginning I wasn't entirely sure what Hasbro was looking for, so I sketched out quite a few concepts and designs before landing on the final. I didn't even know what the figure would look like in those early days, so I tried some different (weird) treatments.
