I wasn’t a high rollin’ Gordon Gekko type at the age of 8, but I saw plenty of those big 80s cellphones in movies and on TV.
Intended to be a symbol of affluence, I remember wondering if the convenience of getting phone calls on the golf course outweighed the literal weight of carrying around that brick all day. Guess we’ll never know.
By the way... the first Motorola DynaTAC 8000X cellphone sold for a whopping $3,995 in 1984.
